First Dance...What to Do, What to Do...

Trying to select and/or figure what you are going to do for your first dance can be pretty tough for some people. What song do you choose? Do you know how to dance? How long does it have to be? Your first dance can range from the typical "Two-Step Sway" A.K.A. The 6th Grade Sway, to something fun and goofy, to a Ballroom or Foxtrot for those who are really brave. See below chart:

The most common hesitancy I see from a lot of people are those who feel as though they may not know how to dance or aren't comfortable dancing while everyone stares at them while doing something they aren't sure if they are even doing right!..but that's normal. The bottom line...nobody watching you do your first dance expects anything super special. Have you been to a wedding before? Do you remember watching the newly weds do their first dance? You may remember that they did indeed do a first dance, but chances are (unless it's recent) you don't actually remember what the first dance looked like. Unless it was something like this:

Planning and doing something funny like this will definitely garner a few laughs, but by no means is it expected. Based upon the above chart, I would say 98% of the first dances I've seen have fallen into the "6th Grade Sway" category. Very rarely do I see something goofy or fun, and even more rare do I see the actual professional level ballroom dance.

Still not sure what do or worried about your dance skills (or lack there of)? In the words of college professors everywhere...Google it!! Better yet, head on over to YouTube and search for how to dance first wedding dance! You would be amazed at the amount of instructional videos available. It is not weird to practice before your wedding night, in fact, I recommend it!

New Audio Video Package

We are always trying to find new ways to improve our set up and offer a better experience to our customers. Sometimes it's a new light for the dance floor, better DJ controller, programs, etc. This time, we've added something really cool...a TV!

It hangs from our light truss system with a special designed TV mount. It looks really nice and has gotten some great reactions from people so far! We've played some fun music videos such as the oh so popular Gangnam Style, Suit & Tie, and so on. We also put up some funny YouTube videos with the music and even have a small camera we mount to show off the dance floor when we have a good crowd going!

One of the really cool things that this allows us to do is offer the ability to brides and grooms to put together a slide show of photos to play during like a cocktail hour or dinner. Given the photos, we can compile a slide show for you to play at your request. We can also display messages to your guests. One message we display is "Tweet Us Your Song Requests! @savethisdance" or a congratulations message to the bride and groom. There are a ton of options!

Check out our demo video:

We have had so much fun with this so far and look forward to new ideas and suggestions on other ways to implement this!

DJ Light Set Up

We've had questions asked in the past about our light set up, what kind of lights we have and if they are appropriate for their event. And my answer every time, is that every event is different. Obviously, an event held out doors in the middle of the day wouldn't work too well. But any other time that dancing is involved, they are strongly recommended...because they're so much fun! Some venues can be a little small and the space for the DJ isn't super large, so we do have a large and small set up for our lights to adapt to the situation. The reason lights are so recommended, other than being so fun, of course, is that they really do help liven up the dance floor. We have a combination of lasers and LED lights and a fog machine that will get any dance floor kicked up a notch. All of our lights are also state of the art LED lights for low power consumption. And when you see our lights are your party, you'll understand why a dance party isn't a party without some lights!

New Logo

So this past week I was talking with one of my friends, Shaun (from "Couple of Bartenders") who told me that my logo reminded him of another logo, take a look...

So the only thing I know about Dick Tracy is that he had a super cool watch he talked on and I always wanted one as a kid, but not much else beyond that. And the logo's don't have a ton in common other than the color scheme. But it did give me the idea for a new logo. Still debating if this is something I'm going to use in the future...but let me know what you think!

A Very DJ Christmas

How different is a DJ's Christmas from a "normal" Christmas? None whatsoever :p It was a very fun year though. We spent it with my parents and all my siblings. We were in Southern Utah which means it was cold enough to keep almost a dozen kids all under the age of 10 cooped up in doors but without the fun of snow (I grew up in Southern California, so yes, I'm still under the illusion that snow is fun). Every year, my parents have a tradition to get all the kids, adult kids included, a pair of Christmas pajamas that we open on Christmas Eve. So to return the favor, this year my wife had the beautiful idea to return the favor. So we got my dad a pair of superman onesies (cape included) and my mom some footy pajamas. Definitely worth every laugh we all got that night.
They were both very good sports. Though my mother will disown me if she ever finds out that photo got posted on the internet.
Here is Nash with his cousin "Hank-opotamus" in their matching PJ's
Nasher opening up his first Christmas present. He was much more into it than we though he would be.
